Gabe Douglas of Four on the Floor is curating an autumnal music fest in the woods near the Twin Ports. We play at noon on a Saturday! Bloody Marys! There are a lot of other really good bands on this bill, including Black Eyed Snakes, The Heavy Set, Jillian Rae, and Matt Latterell.

In other news...
We are sending the songs for a new seven-inch to the record-making factory. More details to follow, but here's a hint. If you've seen us play many shows, you know the songs. Furthermore, some of the people in Southside Desire have been busy with other bands to check out. One of them is the spaced-out glam punk four-piece Star Child, led by Joy. Another is Private Interests, a power-pop band with Trevor and Damien, and led by Johnny Eggerman (Mystery Date) and Cam Soojian (Thee Rugs). Come to shows, say hi, and eventually give them money in exchange for the merchandise they'll have!

July 2015 Shows Update!

All we need is Eddie Van Halen...

We must be doing something right because our July is rad.

So check it out: We're playing at the Basilica Block Party on Saturday July 11thWilco are headlining the big stage, with ex-Drive-by Trucker Jason Isbell before them and Jenny Lewis before him, and hot new southern psych band Fly Golden Eagle before her. We'll be on the little local stage at 6 PM between American Scarecrows and Aero Flynn. There is also another stage that has other bands. This is way exciting because Wilco and Jason Isbell are some of my favorite rock star level bands playing right now. Personal note (Damien's writing this): at first I was hesitant about playing this gig because of all the questionable and/or bad things the Catholic Church does/did. BUT I have been assured that the funds raised by the BBP go toward one thing: upkeep of the Basilica itself, which is the nicest architecture I've ever seen in a freeway crotch. Also, the leadership at the Basilica is inclusive of LGBTQ members, they work hard to help the homeless, and have been vocal about transparency in sexual abuse cases. OK, so enough of that. It's an exciting gig, and we're thrilled to be on the bill!

THEN! Our next show after that is in First Avenue's Mainroom on July 24th for the release of Black Diet's new album The Good One! We'll be starting the night, followed by our friends Red Daughters and Chicago's JC Brooks and The Uptown Sound. Getadvance tickets here.

THEN! We're playing at the NE Brewer's Block Party on Sunday July 26th. It will feature beer from pretty much everyone in Northeast. And music. And food. And probably wristbands and temporary fences. It's free for all ages!

AND on August 7th, we're playing what will probably be our last show of the summer at the new Como Dockside Pavilion. It's a music and movie combo, and get this: the movie will be Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure! This will be a great send-off, as our goal for the fall is to take a break from gigs and woodshed a bunch of new songs to play for you soon.

See you out there, and thanks for your support!

Spring 2015! Hooray!

First of all, here are our upcoming dates:

April 18th at Hymie's Vintage Records Block Party. We play at 4:00 PM with a ton of other great bands. There's food, beer, and free records!

April 25th at Ed's No Name Bar in Winona. This is part of Midwest Music Festival. Again, there are too many amazing bands playing this Fest to list, but it's going to be incredible. We are closing the night at Midnight. We're planning to bring the pain, then party all night. After the party it's the hotel lobby.

May 16th at The Anchor Fish and Chips. This is part of the Northeast Minneapolis madness that is Art-a-Whirl! We loved this gig last year, in no small part because we each got a free food ticket and it was soooo good.

May 23rd at Memory Lanes Block Party. This festival gets better every year. This time, we get to share a bill with Rupert Angeleyes, Tickle Torture, Black Audience, Hardcore Crayons, Fort Wilson Riot and more. It's free, and Trevor will be in the dunk tank.

There will be more to follow in the summer. What a magical time for listening to great music outside.

In other news, Marvel and Trevor had their baby! In the end of November, little Julian came screaming into the world. He's a rad little redhead. Happily, his wonderful Grandma Liz lives two blocks from our practice space, and she loves to babysit.

Also, and this is exciting: Piñata Records, the record label we started to release our music, and then blossomed with other great bands like Black Diet, Mystery Date and Narco States, was named Best Local Label by Minneapolis' City Pages. This is a wonderful honor. So we're doing what any business would do; we're having a sale.

Get 25% off an entire order on our Bandcamp page through
April 23rd, using this discount code:
bestlabel

There's a lot of great stuff there, including the last few copies of the Southside Desire/Black Diet Split 7" and our new album on both vinyl and CD. You can even snag a Piñata T-shirt for $7.50.

We hope to see you out at the shows. Thank you for being a friend!

We're not on break anymore!

Oh man, we should post on this blog more often! Well, we're not on break anymore at all! In fact, we're working really hard on our new album, being recorded all over the city. And, we're back to playing lots of shows.

For instance:

March 8th at Kathy's Pub in Rochester with Black Diet
March 23rd at Hell's Kitchen
March 29th at the Nomad for Trevor's Birthday (w/ Grickle Grass reunion!)
April 12 at Hexagon Bar for Mystery Date release party
April 20 in the middle of a road for the Worst Friends Ever after party
April 25 at Ed's No Name Bar in Winona

See? Busy! OK, carry on enjoying our website. And like us on Facebook if you haven't already, because we do a much better job of keeping that thing up to date.

Summer's over. We're on break!

We had a good summer! We played a bunch of really fun block parties and put out a split 7" with our dear friends Black Diet. And now, as a favor to you, our fans, we will stop playing shows for a little while. No more getting Facebook event invites to 5 shows every month. We'll try to get our butts outta Minneapolis a little more often and make our Minneapolis concerts a little bit more rare and special.

To tide you all over, here's our new videos, both directed by Gordon Byrd. We also have our next Minneapolis show booked at the 331 Club with Fuck Knights on November 22nd. It'll be pretty rowdy.

Spring Wrap Up!

WOW! What a blast the last few months have been!

March!
3/2 We play the BLBC Sava-Dangerously Hunt Party in and it was a blast! It was Joy's first show with us! Yay, Joy!(She is the bomb, FYI.)

We played a really great show in Duluth at RT Quinlan's with an amazing Soul/R&B band called Big Wave Dave & the Ripples. Can't wait to hear Funk Bat again!

April!
4/20 We played 2 really great shows in 1 day! First we played at Hymie's Vintage Records as part of their Record Store Day celebration. So many great local bands played that day. What a blast. There was still snow on the ground and it was kinda chilly out. It looked like this.

Then we hopped in the Bieberwagon to play at Dibs Cafe to close down the Midwest Music Fest. Everyone at Dibs is amazing and we can't wait to go back and party with them.

We also were very privileged to open up our friend Lucy Michelle's solo album "Attack of the Heart" Release Party at the Cedar Cultural Center. It was an amazing night.

May!!
Even though we only had one show this was a crazy month for us. We got to watch "When I was your Queen" on TPT's MNOriginal! It was crazy to see ourselves on TV! Also, we sat down with a very nice fella from the City Pages named Erik Thompson. We were actually in the print edition!

5/26 Memory Lanes Block Party! This was a really great show!
So many of our Friends and Family were there! AND, we met all kinds of new friends! It was a treat to play with Sean Anonymous & Dream Crusher, Black Diet, Teenage Moods, The Outstanding Achievements in the Field of Excellence, The Snaps, Platypus, Crunchy Kids, and the Hotpants DJs.

June!
6/16 The Stone Arch Bridge Festival was a mega success. Even though we forgot our bass guitar in the van the rad stage crew drove Trevor back to Piñata Records HQ to get an extra bass and got back just in time to start the set. It looked like this.
The only bummer was the lack of Burritos back stage. And I suppose that none of us have won the lottery yet.

SSD shoots 2 songs for MN Original

Southside Desire spent the morning of Tuesday, March 26 at the Twin CIties Public Television studios in St. Paul, where they were invited to record two songs. There is no air-date as of yet, but they can promise multiple costumes and a sparkly set. Here's some photos to prove they were there.
